Great Elk Article from The UK College of Agriculture
The University of Kentucky College of Agriculture had a fantastic article on Kentucky's Elk herd. It chronicled the beginning of the elk program until today. It stated that F&W expected the elk herd to reach 10,000 animals by 2013 but it looks like that it will actually be reached by 2009. The goal is to release 1,500 permits per year. This year, it will be 1,000 permits. The University and Fish and Wildlife continue to study carrying capacity and the effects on deer and the capacity that the people of Eastern Kentucky can handle. Very interesting article.
