Tough weekend at LBL

In what's been an on-going title all season, me and the little man had a tough weekend at LBL. We were set up in a great spot and saw quite a few deer but just couldn't get a good shot off. We battled bad luck all weekend. Oh well, it was fun being out with him. We also got a chance to go down and check out the elk. We finally got a look at a nice 6x5 that bugled. Back at it this week at home. Hoping for better luck.

Elk Hunt Results

There were 115 bulls taken during the Bull Elk Hunt here in Kentucky out of 131 permits issued. One bull in Knott county green scored over 390 so a 400 inch bull is on the horizen in the bluegrass.

The cow hunt is coming up with 402 tags being issued. F&W is estimating the population to be at 8,500 currently.

Remember, you can purchase next years elk lottery application beginning on December 1 for $10. The entries will in on April 1, 2009 and be drawn in May. Good luck.

Finally some buck action

Finally, I saw a nice buck tonight. Just couldn't get him in a comfortable range for a shot. He was pretty impressive. Saw a small 8 checking a bunch of does. Fun night on stand. I wish I'd taken the video camera with me.

Another rough weekend...........

Geez, another rough hunting weekend for my son and I. We did finally see a decent buck tonight but he had corn on his mind and headed there quickly from the cover. He stopped twice on grunts and took a couple of steps our way as I hit the horns, but continued on his way and stayed tucked inside the corn the rest of the evening. I heard ZERO shots around this entire weekend. I did see a couple of nice bucks on kentuckyhunting.net including a 199 inch non-typical.

We're on to LBL next weekend for their youth hunt. The weather and moon looks good. Maybe our luck will change up and I can get this little man a deer.

Pumped Up About Early Muzzleloader

I'm pretty pumped up about the upcoming weekend for early muzzleloader after a disappointing weekend. The weather report is saying the temps will drop to highs in the low 60s and lows maybe in the low 40s or maybe even 30s. I expect the bucks to start checking some does and getting a little fired up. Maybe we'll see a little sparring. I might break out the decoy Sunday if Saturday doesn't go well.

Rough Hunting Weekend

Rough weekend for hunting this weekend. The weather was June like and the moon was terrible for deer. Didn't see much except for a lonely coyote who decided to bark and howl at the moon for 45 straight minutes this morning. My son gave him quite a wakeup when he missed shot a couple inches in front of him looking at us at about 175 yards. I did talk to a friend who said there were a couple of nice youth bucks at a processor in Spencer Co.

Youth Hunt this weekend

Kentucky's 2 day youth gun hunt gets underway Saturday. Last season my son killed a great double beamed 9 pointer. The weather looks like it'll be on the warm side again. Hopefully he can snag another giant.

Elk Hunt Reports

Reports are out that a bull green scored 392 non-typical. I'll see if I can snag some pics. That's a horse.

Kentucky Elk Season in Full Swing

Kentucky's elk season got underway this weekend. There are some reports of some really nice bulls. There is one report of an ancient 5x4 with an original release tag in his ear. He's got to be really old. We should be seeing some pics shortly.
