Kids Free Hunting Weekend

The kids free hunting weekend is Dec. 27th and 28th. This is for youth 15 and under. This is a great time to get a youth introduced to the outdoors. It's also a great time to take a few does out of the population. I love what F&W is doing for our kids.

Late Muzzleloader Season

I'm ready for the late muzzleloader season this year for sure. It should hit the 2nd part of the rut just right where I'm at. It opens state wide Dec. 13 and runs through the 21st.

2009 Elk Lottery on-line only

You can purchase your 2009 Elk drawing chance beginning December 1st. The drawing will be held in May. All purchases have to be made by April 30th. You can only purchase on-line this year. I'm very interested to see how many tags will be issued for the 09 season. I'd say we'll have a draw number by April.

Duck Season

Duck season opened today in Kentucky. It runs all the way through January 25th. I'll be getting out around the Christmas holiday if everything isn't frozen over.

Bucks still on the move across the Bluegrass

The bucks are definitely still on the prowl. I saw four bucks Wednesday evening including a nice 8 and a horse of a 10. I'm heading back Friday after my wife shops her Black Friday marathon. My dad and my son have scored. I think it's finally my turn. I'm hearing the bucks are still moving hard all over the state.

Ethan Scores

Finally, after hunting hard, we had some good luck tonight. I think it was Paw Paw going with us. We've seen a lot bigger bucks and a bunch smaller too but Ethan made a nice shot on a nice buck here and scored for his second straight year of hunting. Top 2 are this season's buck. The bottome is from 07.

Bucks Chasing Like Crazy But..............

Still no deer. My son and I have seen more bucks this year than I've seen in a long time but we've had terrible luck. We're going to change that this afternoon b/c the frustration is starting to build.

My Dad Scores Big

We've seen a lot of bucks this weekend so far. My dad scored on this big 10 tonight. He battled cancer though the past few seasons. He's cancer free now and back in the stand. I think this is his 2nd biggest buck.

Good start to gun season.....kind of

We've seen quite a few bucks this weekend. Unfortunately, my son missed a pretty nice one this morning. He's pretty bummed out. Saw one booner but didn't offer up any kind of shot. We also had a small buck knock over our decoy this morning at about 10 yards. Good start. Hopefully, it'll get even better tonight.

Kentucky's Modern Gun Season Opens Saturday

Gun season will officially open Saturday with a sea of orange around the bluegrass. My son will be trying to score another giant like the one above.



Zones 1 and 2 will run Nov. 8-23 either sex

Zone 3 is Nov 8-17 either sex

Zone 4 is Nov 8-17 antlered deer only
