Ryder Cup-Boo Weekly

Well, if you can't get out and go huntin this weekend, you might want to watch the Ryder Cup which is taking place up the road from me. Hunters have somebody to root for in Boo Weekly. His press conference today was more than entertaining. He did mention hunting twice I believe. Boo does a lot of hunting with Mossy Oak. Check out this story on Boo. Gotta love a dude that golfs in a camo cap.

Versus Podcast-David Morris

I just completed my second podcast of the day for Versus Country. This time it was with guest David Morris from "The Bucks of Tecomate". Mr. Morris seems like a really good fella. He is a deer management and food plot pioneer. The Bucks of Tecomate is hosted by Jeff Foxworthy on Versus TV. I got to ask Mr. Morris a question about managing small pieces of land like many of the ones here in Kentucky. Mr. Morris explained that the key is always nutrition and a lot of it on any sized piece of land. He said you may want to locate your food plots away from neighboring farms if your not sure or don't share their management plans.
You can listen to the entire podcast with David Morris on or after September 19th on Versus Country.

Versus Podcast-Tred Barta

I just completed the Versus Country podcast with Tred Barta. Man, that dude is passionate about what he does. He's high strung and a bit out there but he believes what he believes and doesn't care if you agree with him or not. I was able to ask one question about the rising cost of hunting. He stood on me a bit and said it didn't matter if you were able to afford hunting moose in Alaska or squirrel on public property in Kentucky. Hunting was just hunting and it doesn't matter how big it is or how much it costs. Not the answer I was expecting but his answer anyway. Tred does it his way.
By the way, the podcast will be available on September 19th on Versus Country.

Winded Out Today

The wind is brutal today all across Kentucky. The temperature's not too bad but I'll be staying in watching football when my electricity comes back on today. Hurrican Ike has saved some deer today.

Versus Country TV

Versus Country's Friday night TV lineup is the best hunting on television. At 8:00, "Winchester's Whitetail Revolution" airs with hosts Larry Weishun, Mark Kayser, Ron Smomer, and Mike Hanback. At 8:30 EST, "The Bucks of Tecomate" is by far my favorite show to see some big huge bucks and entertaining hunting televsion with Jeff Foxworthy and David Morris. David Morris is a food plot, big buck growing pioneer in hunting. At 9:00 EST, you can catch that crazy Tred Barta in "The Best and Worst of Tred Barta". Tred definitely does it his way and it sometimes works and sometimes does not.
Check out the Versus TV lineup and entire hunting and fishing website at:
Versus is Channel 57 on Inside Connect Cable. In Louisville, Versus is Insight Digital Channel 549.

Kentucky's Bow Season.....the first few days

I've been out twice so far since bow season started in Kentucky on Saturday. Still seeing most bucks in velvet. I got to my stand on Sunday and realized that my set up wasn't comfortable when I got up. I ended up sitting in a fixed ladder stand and saw 1 nice buck in a bean field but he stayed safely out in the middle. I got home today from work and couldn't resist the drop in temp so I decided to head out. I sat in a box stand on a clover field. I saw 3 big 8 pointers in about 30 total deer. Had one big 140+ class 8 at 25 yards but it was very dark to take a good shot. Exciting stuff to open the season. I know we have a lot bigger deer that I've seen in the past 3 weeks. Should be an intersting season.

How has your first few days been? Good luck.

When are you getting out for the first time?

Kentucky's bow season opens on Saturday. When is the first day you'll be getting out? I'm going to at least get out once this weekend. My son wants to head to Lexington to see the Cats on Saturday. Looks like the weather looks a lot better for the middle of next week but the moon is heading back towards full for the following weekend. Good luck to all of you who are going out. Find that deer fast and get it on ice.

Important California Legislation

From Mossyoak.com

Hunting/Fishing Bill Goes to CA Governor August 29, 2008

Legislation championed by the California Legislature Outdoor Sporting Caucus that clarifies the authority of the state Fish and Game Commission and Department of Fish and Game over local governments is expected to be signed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is coming days.

California Assembly Bill 815 would block local governments from passing ordinances to stop or approve hunting and fishing and will prevent potentially severe county/municipal restrictions, or outright bans, from being placed on hunters and anglers.

As reported by the California Outdoor Heritage Alliance, the legislation was derived from several State Attorney General’s opinions that determined local governments couldn’t regulate the taking of fish and game.

Because the Government Code or the Fish and Game Code contained no clear statutory language, California cities and counties have increasingly attempted to restrict and even ban hunting and fishing activities.

In addition to strengthening the state’s authority over hunting, fishing and scientific wildlife management, the new law will prevent “checkerboard” fish and game laws that differ from county to county.

5 days until bow season...weather forecast update

Looks like a bad turn in the weather forecast for next weekend. Looks like it'll be upper 80s with just a slight chance of rain. Hopefully a late afternoon rain might cool it down both days!
